Everybody loves a bear, though they might not be too fond of you if you get too close! These awesomely powerful animals may have strength on their side, but unfortunately six out of the eight species of bear are now endangered. Some horrible people even catch them and force them to perform under cruel conditions.
Bears are not nocturnal animals, and generally go about their daily business during daylight. They are quite noisy too, and have a wide variety of different noises that can either attract mates or warn off would be threats. They like to hibernate during winter, and I don’t blame them! Bear heart rates drop from 55 beats per minute to as little as 9 to allow them to rest for long periods at a time.
They have an awesome sense of smell, can run really quickly, and are also surprisingly great swimmers and climbers for animals of their size. They are generally solitary animals, only really coming together to mate, and more of that needs to happen before it becomes too late for these proud magnificent mammals. Loss of habitat is a huge threat, but the way they are treated by humans needs to change to allow the bear enough space to survive and breed.
