Keepers Celebrate World Rhino Day – 22-09-11

Aspinall Foundation zoo keepers at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park had a great day yesterday as they celebrated World Rhino Day. The Park, along with it’s sister park in Canterbury, is home to 17 black rhinos, giving it the mantle of the most successful breeding record of the species in Europe!

Happy 50th Birthday to UKs Oldest Gorilla

The Aspinall Foundation were wishing Mouila, a female Western lowland gorilla, a very happy birthday as she turned 50 this month at the Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent. This landmark date makes Mouila the oldest Western lowland gorilla in the UK and one of the oldest of her kind worldwide.

New Capybara Pups at Howletts Park

The Aspinall Foundation are absolutely over the moon with their four Capybara pups that were born in their Howletts Wild Animal Park this month. The new breed consist of five female and one male (poor bloke!), and are one of the star attractions at the park. These little cuties have been turning visitors heads with their nonchalant padding around their area.

New Rare Fawns Born at Port Lympne Park

Keepers at the Aspinall Foundation Port Lympne Park were delighted to see 6 new Barasingha fawns which will join the herd of 22 at the park. The rare animals, also known as Swamp Deer, were born in the park at the beginning of July 2011, and are creating quite stir with recent visitors to the park. Currently on the endangered species ‘Vulnerable’ list, their total numbers may be as few as 3500, so the latest arrivals have been warmly received by both staff and visitors at the park.

New Burger to Help Save The Tiger

The Aspinall Foundation are pleased to announce their new partnership with Holiday Inn Express in Folkstone as they launch a tasty new way to help save the tiger from extinction. The Tiger Burger, an 8oz cheese burger with 2 rashers of bacon (like tiger stripes!) will be available to purchase from the Holiday Inn Express near Junction 12 of the M20 for a limited time, with £1 from each burger being donated to support the work of the Aspinall Foundation.

Screwball Rally Team Raise £300 for The Aspinall Foundation

A group of fundraisers travelled 2500 miles across Europe in a black cab to help raise money for the Aspinall Foundation, and in particular their Honey Badger. The group set off from Dover and travelled through Dijon, Asti, Munich, Hanover and back through Calais as part of the 2010 Screwball Rally, raising £300.

Help Protect Endangered Species with the Aspinall Foundation

The Aspinall Foundation is an animal conservation charity, who, working with Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks in Kent is devoted to saving rare and endangered animals, and, wherever possible returning them to protected areas in the wild.

The Aspinall Foundation has a solid background in the breeding and reintroduction of threatened species, in particular two long-standing rehabilitation and reintroduction projects in Congo and Gabon for western lowland gorillas. We have also recently launched a new project to protect the critically endangered greater bamboo lemur in Madagascar and have entered into the planning stage for our newly created project to save the endangered Javan gibbon.

The Aspinall Foundation’s Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks have been recognised in ‘The Beautiful South Awards of Excellence 2010’. These awards recognise those that have embraced multiple digital marketing for tourism in the area, with the parks winning gold in the ‘Digital Marketing Category’.
