New Aspinall Foundation Open Top Enclosure

Check out these amazing scenes as two Javan Gibbons put the Aspinall Foundation’s new open topped enclosure through it’s paces! These endangered animals really made the most of this awesome new play area, and hopefully the new surroundings will get the pair in the mood for breeding.

The pair are called Hilo and Saraswati, and hopefully once they become familiar with their new climbing area at the Howletts Wild Animal Park near Canterbury, will have children together to help boost the world’s population. There are only 50 captive Javan Gibbons outside of Indonesia in just ten different locations worldwide. Only a few pairs are breeding successfully, so big things are hoped for from these swing kings.

Primate Keeper, Joanne Marden said –

It is great fun for these two, they love swinging around the ropes and jumping through the trees and branches – so much so it’s quite difficult sometimes to bring them inside. It would be fantastic if Hilo and Saraswati have babies, we have an excellent success rate with breeding these endangered primates.

Here’s hoping that the new Aspinall Foundation open topped enclosure increases the chances of this pair of beautiful creatures mating. But judging from some of the fancy footwork being shown on this video, they’ll have to catch each other first!
