More Crazy Facts About Puppies
Puppies grow very quickly and this means it takes a little time for them to adjust to their new body. Just like when human babies begin to walk for the first time, the puppy can also be a little clumsy. This is very common for large size breeds because they have big paws and long legs, so unsurprisingly when a puppy trots beside you it can be quite clumsy.
Puppies are born as a litter, so from the moment of conception they are always in the company of others. This means puppies simply love to be surrounded by other animals or humans and when they are left alone they quickly start feeling very lonely. Many puppies will chase their tails whilst others will seek out trouble. When your pup is young you should be sure that you spend plenty of time with the little fella and actively put him in sociable situations so he gets used to being a pet.
Just like human babies your puppy will start growing his teeth whilst he chews. Puppies need to exercise their newly formed teeth and this means they will chew anything they can get their teeth around. You should not discipline your puppy for chewing, instead you should train they on what is acceptable to chew such as ropes or chew toys, and what’s not acceptable to chew on.
Whilst they may not act upon it a one year old puppy is generally considered a full grown adult because it is the equivalent of a 15 year old human. Whilst that may not be old enough to vote your one year old pup is all grown up!
We discussed the sense of smell in the previous post where we said a puppies sense of small is 1000 times better than a humans. Humans have 5 million scent detecting cells in their nose whilst dogs have a whopping 220 million. The part of the brain devoted to scents and smells in a puppy’s brain is four times bigger than that of a human.
