World Cup Prize Draw Winner Donates £207 to Hounds for Heroes
Udopt.co.uk ran a World Cup prize draw earlier in the year to give our udopt fans the the chance to win a cash donation for their favourite charity. All you had to do was like us on Facebook, twitter or sign up to our mailing list to be entered into the prize draw. In fact if you did all 3 you had 3 chances to win!
First out of the hat as our lucky winner was Nikki Lawley. She decided to donate the £207 prize (related to the amount of goals scored at the World Cup*) to her designated charity of Hounds for Heroes. They are a charity started in February 2010 with the aim of training dogs to assist injured and disabled men and women who worked in the Armed Forces and emergency services.
Nikki was over the moon to win the prize:
“As a relatively new charity Hounds for Heroes are probably less well known than many others and I know they will really appreciate the donation.
A friend of mine had liked udopt on Facebook and it had shown in my news feed and I followed the link. I chose Hounds for Heroes as I have lots of links to the military and the emergency services and feel that it’s a very worthwhile charity. I have been to an open day and met Alan and Endal junior and saw first hand the importance that the dogs bring to peoples lives.
I’m a dog lover and own a chocolate Labrador. The breeder of our dog is a fantastic man. We’re still in touch with him as he likes to keep an eye on the welfare of his puppies. I’m proud to say that one of his dogs is a Hound for Heroes dog and is actually a half sibling of my lovely Willow.”
We have an even bigger donation prize planned for Christmas involving our udopt’r animal gift chooser so we asked Nikki to give it a go to see what her best animal match was.
“My best matches from the udopt’r was a Giraffe, an elephant and an anteater! This is a great way to help pick a gift for people based on their own personality. I’ll be back to buy some udopt adopt an animal gifts as Christmas presents! Keep up the good work.”
Congratulations to Nikki and Hounds for Heroes who offer a fantastic service for ex armed forces and emergency servicemen and women. Keep your eyes on the blog when we talk to Allen Parton who founded Hounds for Heroes and give you the lowdown on this fantastic charity.
*£207? I thought there were 171 goals scored during the World Cup?
As the World Cup went on we put £1 in a prize pot for each goal which came to £171.
We wanted to give a bit more so we took the goals scored by the top scorers James Rodríguez (6), Thomas Müller (6), Neymar (4) and the total number of goals scored by England (a very poor 2!) and doubled it to give £36 making the total prize pot £207.
