Watch This 40 Ton Humpback Whale Leaping Out Of The Ocean

So it goes without saying that humpback whales are huge. In fact, most people would characterise them as enormous. If you need the stats, then here you go. The average weight of an adult humpback whale that is fully grown is 36,000 kilograms. If that is not enough to shock and awe you, to put that into context, an adult humpback whale weighs the same as 24 adult hippos.

Extraordinary show

So now you know just how massive humpback whales are, you will be shocked to see this video which shows the massive mammal putting on an astonishing air show. In the video you will see a humpback whale completely leaping out of the waters off the coast off South Africa. The video was taken in the Indian Ocean by Craig Capehart who is a scuba diver. Mr Capehart was essentially a sitting rubber duck in his inflatable boat when the graceful giant decided to put on its show.

First time ever recorded

Mr Capehart reckons the whale must have weighed around 40 tons but by the looks of this video, its size obviously meant very little to it. Mr Capehart believes that no one has every managed to record an adult humpback whale leaping completely out of the ocean. This is a very rare event indeed. Whilst we are used to seeing videos of dolphins and even Great White Sharks leaping out of the water, this is certainly a first for an adult humpback whale.
