Check Out This Trapped Baby Elephant Being Rescued By Villagers In Thailand
This is an incredibly heart-warming video which shows how people in a village in Thailand joined forces to rescue a baby elephant that found itself trapped in a muddy well. The video which was posted on YouTube shows the baby elephant having a tough time keeping its head above the muddy waters. According to a report in the Chiang Rai Times the calf was part of a herd of 40 elephants that had found themselves in a rubber plantation searching for food.
Mama elephant was electrocuted
The baby elephant fell into a well which is located in the Kaeng Hang Maeo district of Thailand’s Chanthaburi province. The baby’s mother attempted to deliver assistance but was prevented from doing so after being electrocuted by nearby fencing according to Thai PBS. The villagers were very helpful and managed to cut of the supply of electricity to the fence before the baby’s mother died. They then rushed to provide help to the forest rangers who were guiding the elephant out of the well.
All’s well that ends well
The rescuers used a mechanical digger to produced a slope from the well’s three metre wall so that the elephant calf could climb out and make its escape. According to newspaper reports, there was digging for about 30 minutes before the elephant was able to be freed. Fortunately, if you excuse the pun, but all’s well that ends well and the baby managed to reunite with its mother who by that time had recovered from her electrocution and both disappeared into the jungle.
