Baby Elephant Gets Rescued From Well

Recently a baby elephant in India found itself trapped in a well and was unable to escape. Fortunately for the little fella he was able to enjoy a touching reunion with the rest of his herd after local forestry officials mounted a rescue mission that took four hours to complete. The elephant calf fell into the well after its herd was crossing the Urulanthanni River in the Indian state of Kerala. The poor chap immediately began crying out in distress after he found his repeated attempts at escape failed.

Rescuers jumped into action

The cries alerted local villagers who contacted forestry officials for help. The officials jumped into action whilst the elephant herd huddled close by and a crowd began to gather. Rescuers used an excavator to carve a path for the little fella to exit the well and in the end the critter was able to walk to freedom. The herd then crossed the river and was extremely excited to be reunited with their baby. According to local newspaper reports, the herd exhibited an unusual display of affection with the adults touching and pampering the calf in order to comfort it.

As the herd made its way across the river, mama elephant appeared as if she was thanking the rescuers by waving a trunk in a truly touching moment.
