Watch This Man Repel A Charging Bear
The brown bears of Sweden are known to be both shy and secretive, however on occasion they do have run-in’s with people as this video dramatically illustrates. The video shows a man identified as Ralph Persson walking with his partner in the woods. The pair are suddenly approached by a running bear.
As the bear comes very close to Mr. Persson, he thinks fast and stretches his arms out making himself appear much larger and yells at the bear. The bear then does a quick 180 and runs back into the woods. What a way to deal with a situation which could have gotten really bad very quickly huh?
John Beecham an expert on human bear conflict says when travelling in bear country, it is a good idea to travel with at least one other person. He adds you should also carry bear spray which works very similar to pepper spray. If you are walking through dense forests, make a noise to avoid startling bears in the area. Above all else don’t run from the bear which can prompt it to start chasing you.
Mr. Beecham adds that on occasion, bears will approach people to see how strong they are, just like they would with other bears. Generally speaking getting physically attacked happens rarely, but in order to reduce your chances then you should do as Mr. Persson does and appear larger and yell at the bear.
